Is a dim DRL an MOT failure?

It's not quite as simple as that: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/mot-inspect ... tion-4-2-1

Mine passed MOT no issues or advisories.
Jaguar extended warranty replaced it.

Mine's passed the last two MOTs. As Tim mentions above, it's not that simple. Mine's a pre Mar 2018 so the DRL won't be an issue.

The future issue (for my car) will be the turn indicator (which shares the faulty light rod with the DRL). At some point the light output will reduce to a level where it becomes a fail.

I don't know anything about UK MOTs but does the DRL based turning indicator in the headlight really matter when there's also a turning indicator in the rearview mirror, which is at least as visible (especially if you as many of us upgraded it to a much stronger LED strip version)?

It does matter for a UK MOT

Did anyone see the recent posts in the FB group? Just what I expected to come up sooner or later... reasonably priced aftermarket replacements are being produced in China. About 800€ per light including shipping as it seems.

Having spoken to someone who has seen one of the Chinese ones in the flesh, I fear that the quality is not going to please anyone remotely discerning. We're pushing ahead with our efforts to manufacture replacement parts, and now just waiting for sign-off from the factory on the deal they are putting to us. We anticipate being appreciably cheaper than the Chinese units.

I agree with Tim re the quality of Chinese replacement headlights. The Chinese started making units for the original BMW Z4. A few were fitted as Z4’s had xenon corrosion issues, but quality was poor, they didn’t carry the appropriate markings and selling cars fitted with them was harder as they were very different in appearance.
Interesting to see what Tim comes up with, although not applicable to my F Type.
