My 2016 F-Type S was stolen last night right outside of my apartment in East London at around 11.20pm. I didn't realise it was gone until I went to move it around 12pm today, so didn't report it until then (by which time, I guess it could already be at a port, or in Europe somewhere!)

There was glass on the floor, so somebody had clearly broken the window to gain access. In my apartment block, a couple of neighbours had witnessed and filmed it happening, so I have some footage showing it being driven off (although it was too far away to spot the thieves annoyingly). Apparently it was 2 young kids and they were scouring the car for a couple of minutes, before smashing the window, setting off the alarm and then driving off (without the keys).
Nightmare! Did you have any kind of steering lock or immobiliser on the car or did you just rely on the cars standard alarm/locking system?

Kinda wish your neighbours would ring the police rather than just filming it happening. At least then they'd know it was stolen and get in the ANPR system faster.

So a little more about the saga of my theft. The car ended up on an estate in Hackney parked in a residents bay for a couple of days. A council traffic warden took pics of broken drivers window with glass all over the inside and to anyone with an ounce of sense it was clearly stolen but they did not report it just put tickets on it which arrived 10 days later by which time the car had gone. (They leave it a couple of days in case you have a tracker). Unfortunately for me despite reporting it stolen the police ‘forgot’ to show it as stolen on pnc and about 3 days later someone from this forum told me the car was not shown stolen so I called the police. Reply ‘Sorry we forgot’ - you could not make it up. About 3 weeks later Essex recovered the engine and arrested two people in a chop shop. Engine packed to go abroad car stripped and scrapped.
It is clear these are capable thieves who target the car and have to smash their way in then connect up to OBD to defeat the system in seconds and upload their programming to recognise the key in their possession then drive the car away.
I have invested in Ghost 2 and steering lock as visible deterrent so hoping to just make it more difficult for them.
My insurance company made an offer within two days for the value of the car which was 1K more than I bought it for so fingers crossed you have the same luck - although would rather it had not happened at all!

Rather annoyingly, I didn’t have any visible deterrent like a steering lock, which in hindsight may well have been sufficient to put them off stealing it. I relied entirely on the alarm and immobiliser.

I too wish it had been reported immediately, to have a better chance of it being picked up by the ANPR cameras during the evening, but hey ho!

Thank you. It’s a Storm Grey V6S Coupe. Registration plate is HN65OXR. (I suspect the plates may already have been removed though). Driver’s side window was smashed.

I cannot seem to upload the video footage to this forum, but attach a few pics of the car. Would be super grateful if folks are able to keep an eye out for it!

Wow! This is really scary. I live very close to Hackney and suspect it could well be the same gang that took yours. The footage I have showed the car speeding off towards Hackney Wick. I managed to speak to one of my neighbours who saw the whole thing unfold last night and he told me that the kids who stole it had a “small computer device” in their hand (which I guess is the OBD). It was pinched in a matter of seconds after they smashed the window. Sounds very similar to what you also experienced.

Do you happen to know which estate in Hackney yours was left in by any chance? I’m wondering if I can go there myself tomorrow and/or get the police to investigate. Although I confirmed today with them that it is registered on ANPR and marked as stolen, they said it will be a “few days” before a reporting officer is assigned to the case and can take a look into it, so I may need to go a bit DIY on this! I just want to try and find it before it ends up getting chopped up and sold for parts, like yours was.

I would love to talk it through with you to try and get to the bottom of this. I can DM you my mobile number and perhaps we could talk tomorrow?

Car 31590. If car was double locked (press lock twice and alarm will cherp which also deadlocks the doors) then even with a smashed window the doors would not open without a key.
Interesting this is the third theft of this type (2 F-Types and 1 XE however the XE one the door opened straight away) all with limited footage in London. The video will be interesting purely how long it takes them to get it moving as car 31590, like the other one, has the software update that does not allow a new key to be coded via OBD port without fitting a whole new control module.

It is logged on Police National Computer - posting below so it appears on Google if anyone searches for the reg plate as it has contact information.
