I would continue to push for the service too, but would be prepared to spilt 50:50 as a compromise. The car I have just purchased from Stratstone Nottingham had just been reduced by £300 so they wouldn’t offer any further discount. The next service was due within 3 months so I got that completed for free (including spark plugs) and a full tank of fuel. Car also had a full set of new Pirelli’s on it (shame as would have preferred PS4S). I also asked for new mats & wiper blades and umbrella but they would not budge. I think you know when you have squeezed everything out of a deal!

Sorry I haven't posted back on this - I'd been meaning to post a big thank you when the matter was resolved, but it's still on-going so will say it now - thank you! Always good to get the opinion of other like minded folk (many with similar experience/ high expertise in such matters) and it's a testament to the value of such forums that groups of people can mutually benefit from 😍

I’ve used services like the fullcarchecks to dig into a vehicle check before buying. They’ll give you the important stuff: past owners, any outstanding finance, accident history, mileage discrepancies, and if it’s been reported stolen or scrapped. HPI Check is paid, but totally worth it for peace of mind before you hand over the rest of the cash.
