Some advice needed. My V8 is coming up for the 9 year service. I see on the service schedule that the two belts need changing - the supercharger and aux belt. The car has 32000km's.

Do the belts need to be changed at this low mileage or can it be postponed ?
what is the cost of these belts and if anyone has had this service done recently, what was the cost.
I've read that these belts are normally part of the 10 year service so why, I'm wondering, is it showing up on the 9 year schedule.

Supercharger and accessory belts are 9yrs.

In UK a 9yr service at main dealer is approx £1,500.

Unsure whether they deteriorate with age as well as mileage.

Can't speak on the V8 but I had to replace both belts in my V6S a few years earlier than the schedule stated.

When I purchased the car, it had only done about 26,000 miles (~42000kms) in 6.5 years and because the previous owner only did ~800 miles in the previous year, the belts developed a really loud squeak that got worse over time.

The suspected reason was due to the low mileage, combined with the car being parked outside and exposed to the elements. At the time of replacement, the belts would have been about 8 years old too.

The total cost to replace the belts was just under £500 at a Jaguar Specialist (Tom Lenthall Ltd). I did this separately from the annual service, so presumably doing this as part of the annual service would be roughly £800-1000 at a specialist.

thanks guys - any more tips would be appreciated. If I have to do it this year, than I'm thinking of doing the annual service when due and the belts later in the year.

Without doubt the rubber content will deteriorate with age, not merely mileage. Whilst breakage is not an engine destroyer, like a timing belt going, it's not worth the risk of a failure, nor the inevitable missed service item questions at resale time.

I believe the V8 is the same as the V6 with failing water pumps so it's a good opportunity to check it out at the same time. They are known to weep or leak and so are often swapped as most of the labour is already done for the belt changes. Did thin on mine at the time.

Had mine done at the 9th service, total cost including both belts £507 at a main dealer, 35k on the clock.
