Hi.

I'm just trying to do some research on the various OEM audio system layout's in the F-Type

I know the Later cars all got at least the Meridian 380w system, with the upgrade being the Meridian Surround 770w system

These have fully active 3 way front speaker set up (each speaker has a separate feed from the amp rather than the mid and tweeter being on the same channel with a passive crossover for instance. They also have a dual voice coil rear 'sub' behind each seat and a rear high range speaker behind each seat.
Centre speaker looks different between each of the meridian systems but thats not so important.

I also know there was a wiring change around 2017 where the head unit to amp link went from MOST25 to Ethernet.

What I'm less familiar with is any car that doesnt have meridian.

How many speakers did this have in the doors?
Were they still wired actively
What speakers are behind the seats
Do they have a separate amp at all.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi nw83. Here's a summary table of the speakers fitted to the F-Type, that I compiled as part of the now well documented speaker upgrade to higher quality components.

F Type speaker table.jpg

The three audio systems, Base 180W (8 speaker), Meridian 380W (10 speaker) and Meridian 770W (12 speaker), all use exactly the same 3 component speakers for the doors.

The early Base cars, were fitted with the 3" mids in the rear bulkhead, which were used for parking sensor and SOS system communication. See -->

The Meridian 380W and 770W systems added a dual coil 6.5" sub to the rear speaker assembly. See -->

Neither of the early (pre-2018) Base or Meridian 380W systems had a centre speaker fitted. The respective amplifiers did not have a centre channel output signal.

The Meridian 770W system added a co-axial centre speaker, to provide 'surround sound' staging, driven by a DSP.

I believe the Base system was dropped for MY2018, mild facelift and Meridian 380W (with the now 10.2" screen) became the standard fit. At this point the Meridan 380W was fitted with a single cone centre speaker for SOS communication purposes driven directly by the Telematics Control Module and independent of the audio system. This cannot be used as an audio centre speaker as it is not connected to the amplifier (which in turn has no centre channel output).

The only piece I'm not clear on is whether the Meridian 770W uses the rear mids or the co-axial centre speaker for SOS communication, as these are all driven by the audio amplifier.

Hopefully that satisfies your curiosity ;)

Absolutely perfect. Thank you.

Interesting that the base audio used the same frame for the rear speakers but just without the 'sub'

Do you know if the 'Base' system ran from a separate amplifier then and were the door speakers still wired actively?

Yes, base system had separate amplifier housed in the rear centre console between the seats (later amplifiers MY2018 moved to boot, RH wheel arch). It supplied frequency specific ranges to the 3 door speakers, but was a simplier design than the 380W/770W systems, as it did not contain the components necessary for the twin coil rear sub output.
