Thanks for that MajorTom. What's a "symposer" ? Seriously. Never heard the word before.

It's a device at the back of the engine block that feeds noise into the cabin. A few people have removed it, especially on the US forum, which has a thread about how it can be removed.

As scm explained it. There are some other threads about it on here if you search. Strange device which only adds odd annoying noise in the cabin above a certain rev range. I disabled mine a long time ago now so I barely remember the sound but from what I remember it sounded a bit like the noise of a not very nice sounding four banger under load. Removing it completely seems like quite a faff and the easiest thing is to just stuff it with something which blocks the sound.

Pulling fuse 15 never felt like an option because the valves are a great feature. Sometimes like during motorway runs it's great to be able to run the exhaust in quiet mode.

Have to agree. On a bog standard run to work on the M3 or a 5 hour run to Penzance I don't really want the constant full roar followed by the snap, crackle, pop and woofle.

....... or do I ? 🤔

I'll find out soon, pick it up in 10 hours 🥳

Um, both yours and mine are MY18 spec. (J in VIN 8th from end).

Yours shows as:
Car 52137 with no outstanding campaigns which I presume it means the updates have been applied.

Well as mine shows as:
With two outstanding updates which I know have not been applied.

Just to contribute to this topic, the car will go in for the 60 months service which includes sparks next Friday at Jaguar Huddersfield. I asked them to check if there are any pending software updates or recalls and there's none.

I only drive in Sports mode with exhaust on which I select every morning the moment I get in the car because life is too short!

The valves open at about 1,500 rpms and there's a clear difference in sound between having the sports exhaust button On and Off. I'm curious to know if by removing fuse 15 in my case, I'd notice any difference? I like to blip the throttle when power shifting or to rev match when down shifting and sometimes I blip it when shifting from 3rd to 2nd at low speeds and I don't get the full exhaust noise because of the lower rev.

Why not just select dynamic mode instead of switching the exhaust on?

Come to think of it, was that drive by noise regulation that triggered these updates a UK thing? Looking at the descriptions of the versions of H239 it seems like I only have v1 since manual valve opening/closing works in any drive mode and regardless of RPM for me. My car has only been serviced by serious German and Belgian JLR dealers who tend to do things by the book which is why I'd surprised if there's an update that hasn't been applied to mine and realised that it's maybe due to different regulations on the continent.
