Does it mean I got until September to make a claim?
I don't know the details of your email but I don't mind replacing a headlight for a fair price but anything over £500 to £700 for parts and labour is an abusive practice. So I think this is the point JLR has to be challenged on. They clearly designed a part that does not last the life of the vehicle AND wants to charge thousands of pounds for a replacement part.
I wonder if we should all just code the DRLs out to reduce part wear...

You know how you'll get them to finally react? Get the press involved. The moment somebody from, for example, the BBC calls them up they'll change their attitude pretty damn sharpish. If your local BBC news station has a "write in and we'll try and help" segment, write to them and watch how Jaguar change their tune from "tough titty" to "on this occasion we have chosen to help the customer and given them a free service as a gesture of goodwill"

Jaguar Extended Warranty will cover the headlight on the following assumptions.
There is no damage - which there isn't.
It was a failure and not degrading over time, which is also correct. It was OK one day and the next it wasn't.
But it needs inspecting by Jaguar or an authorised Jaguar repairer who will process the claim.
Already booked in at Jaguar for MOT and service on 10th July so called and added it to the job list. With costs between £2400 and £3200 online (diagnostic fee, headlight and labour) that's 2 or 3 years of warranty payments returned!

If they claim it's normal to degrade over time, get the other one replaced since it doesn't degrade, so it's clearly defective. I used that argument to get a defective seat belt replaced in a Fiat many decades ago.

Keep us posted, SimpleR. Getting a free replacement headlight is the main reason I consider taking on a Jag extended warranty later this year. It shouldn't have to come to that though. If only Jag's replacement cost wasn't so astronomical....

Loads of us have had them replaced under extended warranty, so it would be a bit hard to argue now that it's due to degredation. Particularly as the other lamp doesn't appear to degrade.
